Imagine a translator who takes the language you speak (Java code) and converts it into a language the computer understands (machine code). This translator is called a compiler. When you write code, the compiler checks your code for mistakes and turns it into instructions a computer can execute.

Compile time is like a proofreader checking your essay before you submit it. The compiler looks at your entire Java program and checks for basic errors. It makes sure you're using the right syntax, declaring variables correctly, and not making any obvious mistakes. If the compiler finds any errors, it stops the program from running and shows you what went wrong.
