An age structure diagram (also called a population pyramid) is a graph showing the proportion of a population in each age and sex category. Population growth rates can be interpreted from the shape of the diagram. Males are plotted on the left, females on the right, with age cohorts stacked from youngest at the bottom to oldest at the top.
