Dotplots and Stemplots

Dotplot — best for small datasets.

To make a dotplot: Draw a number line covering the data range. Place one dot above the number line for each data value. Stack dots vertically when values repeat.

Stemplot (also called a stem-and-leaf plot).

Example: Data: 21, 23, 25, 25, 28, 31, 34, 34, 37, 42
StemLeaf21 3 5 5 831 4 4 742\begin{array}{r|l} \text{Stem} & \text{Leaf} \\ \hline 2 & 1\ 3\ 5\ 5\ 8 \\ 3 & 1\ 4\ 4\ 7 \\ 4 & 2 \end{array}

A back-to-back stemplot places groups on opposite sides of the same stems.
