British Policies
The Stamp Act pushed a tax on a stamp on all printed documents that colonists used. Because many colonists used paper documents, as a result, the reaction to having to pay this tax was overwhelmingly negative. The colonists believed that they were being taxed without their consent since instead of representative bodies of colonists, such as the House of Burgesses, it was Parliament, where the colonists had no voting power, who raised the tax.
