Loneliness may seem like just an emotion but health experts consider it a severe public health issue. The World Health Organization has officially declared loneliness a global threat to human well being and has formed a global commission led by United States Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and joined by international partners in Africa and Asia. This level of coordination reflects the growing urgency of the problem as loneliness continues to spread across all age groups in the aftermath of the COVID 19 pandemic which broke down regular social and community structures.
