Moles

When working in a lab, it is important to know the amount of particles that you are dealing with in the chemicals that you are using. However, it is impossible to count all of the particles individually because they are so small and so numerous. So how do we know how many particles are in a certain amount of a substance?

To measure the amount of particles, chemists use units of moles. The mole is found using Avogadro’s Number, represented with the variable NA{N_A}, and is 1NA=6.022×1023{1 N_A = 6.022 \times 10^{23}} particles.
