Thermal Energy Transfer

Heat can be seen as thermal energy. Just like all kinds of energy, thermal energy can be transferred. If 2 systems can transfer thermal energy between each other, they are in thermal contact. Heating occurs when thermal energy is transferred into a system, whilst cooling occurs when thermal energy is transferred out of a system. Now there are 3 ways in which thermal energy can be transferred between 2 systems of different temperature: conduction, convection, and radiation.
