Molarity

The main way of measuring the concentration of a solution is molarity, which is calculated by moles of solute / liters of solution. The unit is mol/L, often written as M. So, the molarity of 116.88g NaCl in 2 liters of water is approximately 1M, or 1 mol per liter. The concentration of a substance X is also represented by [X].
