Equilibrium

Equilibrium refers to the state of a system in which opposing forces or actions cancel each other out, leading to a static state. In chemistry, reactions experience a dynamic equilibrium, in which the rates of the forward and reverse reaction are equal, which means there is no net change in concentration of any species.

Importantly: this does not mean that the concentrations have to be equal—just the rates.
