Arrhenius

The Arrhenius Definition relates to acids and bases as they act in aqueous solutions. An arrhenius acid is a substance that, in water, increases the concentration of H+{H^+} ions. An arrhenius base is a substance that, in water, increases {[OH–]}. Now, H+{H^+} is used interchangeably with hydronium, or H3O+{H_3O^+}.
