Neutralization

When an acid and base react, they cancel each other out in what is known as a neutralization reaction. Take the neutralization reaction between sodium hydroxide and hypochlorous acid.

Na(OH)+HClO→NaClO+H2O{Na(OH) + HClO → NaClO + H_2O}

The {OH^–} created by the base neutralizes the H+{H^+} created by the acid, forming water.
