What is Flowing?

Flowing is the process of taking notes during a debate to track the arguments and responses made by both sides. By organizing the debate’s content on paper, you can follow the structure of the round, identify key points, and spot opportunities for rebuttals. Flowing helps debaters keep track of all arguments and ensures that they address each point made by their opponents during their turn. The key purpose of flowing on paper is to:

  • Organize the debate’s information in a clear, structured way.
  • Track arguments and responses to help plan rebuttals.
  • Ensure you don’t miss critical points made by the opposing team.
  • Use your flow sheet as a reference during the rebuttal and final speeches.
