Purpose of Cross-Examination

Cross-examination serves several functions in a debate round. First, it helps clarify arguments and evidence, ensuring that both sides fully understand each other's positions. It also provides an opportunity to weaken the opponent's case by exposing contradictions, logical fallacies, or unsupported claims. Additionally, cross-ex can be used to establish control over the debate by demonstrating confidence and command over the material.

Cross-examination is not just about asking questions; it is also about framing the discussion in a way that strengthens your own position while limiting the effectiveness of your opponent’s responses.
