Reduction Potentials

Reduction potential is the tendency for a chemical species to gain electrons (i.e. get reduced). Chemical species with a high reduction potential are more likely to be reduced than those with a lower reduction potential. In a redox reaction, this means that the chemical species with a lower reduction potential will get oxidized in the thermodynamically favorable reaction. For the AP exam, you will often be given the reduction potentials for the half reactions in a redox reaction.

Note that for all of the reduction potential reactions on the table, electrons are a reactant. They will also often be given in at standard conditions (1.0 M, 1.0 atm, at 25℃).
