People often believe in divination not only because of culture or tradition but also because of the way the human mind interprets information. One major factor is the Barnum Effect. This occurs when individuals read vague and general statements, such as horoscopes or personality profiles, and feel that they are uniquely specific to them. These statements are broad enough to apply to almost anyone, yet people embrace them as personal truths. The desire for positive affirmation and a sense of destiny makes such predictions feel accurate even when they are not.
